The meeting convened on 23/5/2024 at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoYES) was a significant event presided over by H.E Dr. SAN Vathana, the undersecretary of state. The focus of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NUCK, represented by H.E SETH Khan, the rector, and AICAT, represented by Mrs. Dafna, the AICAT director, along with Mrs. Honni, the director of external relations.
Arava International Center for Agricultural Training (AICAT) has cultivated enduring partnerships with Cambodian institutions like MCU, BHI, CABA, and NUCK since 2011. This collaboration aims to provide valuable learning opportunities for Cambodian students, enabling them to evolve into Agropreneurs. The program, known as “learning by doing,” spans 11 months at AICAT in Israel. Students engage in a dynamic schedule involving one day of classroom learning from 9am to 4pm and 4-5 days of internships at advanced farms with Israeli farmers per week.
Participants have the flexibility to bring and prepare their own meals at the AICAT kitchen. As part of their farm internships (covering greenhouse, date farm, and dairy cow farm areas), students receive stipends in line with Israeli labor regulations. This initiative promotes an agriculture without borders philosophy, enriching students with valuable insights, hands-on experiences, and cultural exchanges aimed at enhancing Cambodia’s tourism ecosystem where Cambodia’s diverse attractions, including ancient temples, lush rainforests, the expansive Tonle Sap Lake, and rivers, add depth to the students’ learning journey.
Graduates emerge as Agropreneurs equipped to drive agribusiness growth, serving as essential human capital for Cambodia’s gradual and sustainable GDP expansion. The significant cohort increase from 58 to 110 students for 2024-25 at ACAIT showcases the program’s capacity to shape Cambodia’s agricultural future positively.
